What are negative ions and where do they come from?
All matter is comprised of atoms, consisting of a nucleus with electrons circling around it. Protons inside the nucleus carry a positive electrical charge, while the electrons around it carry a negative charge. When the numbers of protons and electrons are equal, the atom is said to be in a neutral electrical state.
When atoms attract other electrons they become negatively charged. This process is called ionization. Ions are everywhere in our environment. They float in the air and their electrons can change at any time. Negative ions are healthier for the human body than positive ions, which can cause tiredness, depression and irritability. Lethal doses of positive ions dwell within our polluted cities. Car exhausts, factory fumes, tire dust, cigarette smoke, cooking and heating fumes, dust and soot gobble up neg-ions, either neutralizing or positively charging them. Inside, steel and concrete buildings act as electro-magnetic Faraday cages, absorbing the charges of negative ions. Synthetic building materials, clothing and furniture coverings eat up more; so do the metal ducts covering heating and air conditioning outlets.
Negative ions are found in nature and are most dense around water, lightning storms, ocean waves, after heavy rains and in areas of dense green vegetation. The movement of water, especially water falling against rocks, is the biggest generator of negative ions. This is one reason we usually feel good out in nature, around waterfalls, streams, and why the air smells so good after a lightning storm. Our bodies are reacting to the beneficial environment.

Did you know that the Earth’s magnetic field is decreasing?
Scientists explain that the Earth’s magnetic field is generated deep inside the planet - a world inside a world. The inner core is thought to be a mass the size of the moon and has a temperature of several thousand degrees Fahrenheit. It is surrounded by a liquid metal outer core and causes an electrical current to flow through the metal liquid, which creates its own magnetic field. This self-sustaining loop is known as geomagnetic dynamo. One of many benefits of the earth’s magnetic field is to protect us from the solar winds, which if the earth was left unprotected can strip away the planets atmosphere, and bathe its surface in lethal radiation. But there is a concern amongst scientists that the magnetic field seems to be decreasing and is today about 10% weaker than it was when German mathematician Carl Friedrich Gauss started keeping tabs on it in 1845.
Dr. Kyoichi Nakagawa is considered the founder of modern magnetic research in relation to health. He published a 1956 study, which claimed that the earth's natural magnetic field had declined by at least 30% over the last millennium. He then went on to study the effects of magnetism on humans. His coined term 'Magnetic Field Deficiency Syndrome' indicated a lack of Earth's magnetic field caused people to suffer symptoms such as fatigue, insomnia, generalized aches and pains, etc. He conducted a study showing that supplementation with magnets brought symptomatic relief. North American versions of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia seem to correlate very closely with MFDS and also respond well to magnetism. Many magnetic devices have been developed and approved since that time, resulting in major advances in diagnosis, testing, and pain relief.
